The evolution of CAD-based optimisation tools for distribution network design

The use of computer-based tools for the design of electrical distribution networks has significant implications on the process of producing a design. It results in the production of network designs that are more cost-effective and easier to produce than if done by manual techniques. This paper discusses various software-based optimisation tools that have been developed for use in the process of distribution network design. The integration of these and other potential tools could result in a software system that could automatically create a distribution network design.
