Fractionally spaced channel shortening by subchannels SINR maximization in multicarrier systems

In multicarrier communication receivers, the use of a time-domain equalizer (TEQ) mitigates inter-symbol and inter-carrier interferences by shortening the overall channel delay spread. Based on a novel, accurate model for the signal-to-interference and noise ratio (SINR) at each subcarrier, a new approach to fractionally spaced TEQ design is proposed, which maximizes the ratio of total desired signal power (measured across all used subcarriers) to total distortion (i.e. noise plus interferences) power. Numerical simulations confirm the improvement in performance of the proposed approach with respect to previous methods.
