A novel diode-based predistortion linearizer for Ka-band power amplifier

This paper presents a new miniaturized millimeterwave predistortion linearizer. The linearizer is capable of providing different combinations of amplitude and phase characteristic which can satisfy linearization requirements of different kinds of power amplifiers. The simulation results show that, by controlling the voltage bias of the two diodes, electrical length and characteristic impedance of the microstrip line, the linearizer can provide 5.9dB gain expansion and 25° phase expansion for use with travelling wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs) and can provide 7dB gain expansion and -26.5° phase expansion for use with solid state power amplifiers (SSPAs).
