Parallel processing architectures for aerospace applications

Abstract The advent of cheap light-weight low-cost processors will result in a revolution in the application of digital processing to on-board aircraft systems. It now possible to utilise parallel processing develop truly distributed avionics architecture with intelligence being assigned locally to actuators and sensors. In this paper the application of modern parallel processors and “smart” technology is explored highlighting the advantages that these technologies will bring and also areas which need to be addressed before practical systems become a reality.
