Conjugate calculation of flow field and heat transfer in compressor, turbine and casing of a gas turbine

In the scope of the project TC heat fluxes experimental and numerical investigations on turbo chargers were conducted fully integrated. This numerical simulation was performed with a conjugate calculation of fluid flow and solid body, including the heat transfer between fluid and solid, of the compressor, the center housing and the turbine for one operating point. The lubricating oil in the center housing was taken into account by a ID model. The integral heat exchange between fluid flow and solid body of the compressor caused by heat conduction from the turbine was calculated. It has been shown, that not only the amount of heat transferred between fluid flow and solid body is significantly depending on the mass flow rate, but also that the direction of the heat flux is influenced by the mass flow rate.
