An integrated antenna for pulse modulation and radiation

A novel pulse transmitting scheme is proposed based on the integration of RF modulators into a resonant antenna. Driven by the modulating signals, the modulators are able to modulate on the antenna's radiation slots directly. Therefore, narrow pulse sequences can be generated and radiated out simultaneously. Furthermore, the resonant behavior of the antenna, which limits the antenna's bandwidth, can be significantly alleviated. The experimental results show that a patch antenna with a resonant frequency of 2.4 GHz and a 30 MHz bandwidth can transmit a digital modulated signal with beyond 200 MHz bandwidth.
