The temperament of Down's syndrome infants: a research note.

SUMMARY The mothers of 25 Down's syndrome infants completed a questionnaire concerning the- child's behaviour in day-to-day situations in order to identify the temperamental characteristics of each infant. of these infants were identified as children with signs of difficult temperament and only two were found be easy children. in contrast to the amiable, mild stereotype for the syndrome. A comparison. Of the questionnaire characterstics with the mother's rating of her child's temperament shows that the mothers's impressions are more positive. This may be the result of lower expectations or social desirability but it is suggested that it can also be reflection of successful coping skills.
