A tunable dispersion compensator comprised of cascaded single-cavity etalons

We present a tunable dispersion compensator comprised of phase-tuned single-cavity Gires-Tournois etalons. A procedure for optimizing the design is presented and the performance of optimized designs are given as a function of the dispersion tuning range and the number of etalons. The measured performance of a five-etalon device with a /spl plusmn/500-ps/nm dispersion tuning range is also presented.
