Leistungsfähige Tiefbohrwerkzeuge - Folgerungen aus der Betrachtug des Verschleißvorganges

The BTA deep hole drilling has an increasing demand because of its wide applications and its good productivity. One of the aims of the research work in the Institut fur Spanende Fertigung, University of Dortmund, is to find a way to increase the life of the deep hole drilling tools. Initially the complex drilling process and the typical wear process for a conventional tool had to be determined. By the knowledge of the drilling process and the wear propagation the weak points of the cutting edge and the guiding pads were found out. Changing the design of this elements and choosing more suitable materials would improve the drilling process.
