Nondestructive testing (NDT) of fibre-reinforced composite materials

Abstract Fibre reinforced materials of various kinds are now entering service in increasing quantities. Many applications require a high degree of reliability and considerable effort has been expended in the development of suitable nondestructive testing techniques both for production and later inspection. Much of this work has been performed in the United States but British and other European efforts have also been considerable. The object of this paper is to summarise present practice in the production industries and to outline the wealth of background research information available from non-US sources to assist in dealing with future problems.
