GESTIÓN AMBIENTAL DE LAS CADENAS LOGÍSTICAS: CONCEPTO Y CASO DE ESTUDIO

Companies and organizations are a key factor for sustainable development. Environ- mental management is an essential tool in this task, being also useful for environmental differen- tiation of organizations and their products. Business environmental management needs robust environmental indicators. Corporate carbon footprints (CCF) are one of the most popular envi- ronmental indicators. This paper remarks the role of supply chains in environmental manage- ment, in order to achieve environmental benefits from cooperation among chain members. Se- condly, the compound method composed of financial statements (MC3), a methodological alter- native for assessing CCF in a supply chain framework is introduced. MC3 provides useful infor- mation for environmental labeling of products. The case study shows the relevance of environ- mental management with supply chains, including some obtainable results with the MC3. Re- sults from the study also show that the production of canned mussels generates 10.75 tCO2/ton of product, mainly from the canning process company. Keywords: Environmental management / Supply chains / Corporate carbon footprints / MC3.
