Analysis of a communication network with bursty traffic streams

The paper deals with the performance analysis of communication net-works with channel allocation, where messages arrive from outside and have to be transmitted. The messages are divided into packets and axe transmitted packetwise. The transmission is handled by an exchange processing unit (EPU) which has a buffer for packets. Two aspects are of importance: 1. performance characteristics of the network 2. performance characteristics of the EPU Since, in reality, the dynamics of communication networks is very complicated, we have investigated both aspects separately.
