A Horwitz-like function describes precision in a proficiency test

Horwitz found that a simple functional relationship described the variation of reproducibility precision in collaborative trials as a fractional power of the concentration of the analyte. This relationship holds reasonably well, irrespective of the analyte, the matrix, or the nature of the test material. A similar relationship has been found in the results of a proficiency test.
