Finite-element model updating for a gun barrel based on modal test

A barrel assembly finite element model updating method based on SVM-RSM model updating theory and modal test was proposed to solve a problem of low precision of a flexible barrel finite element model in rigid-flexble coupling dynamic simulation. The first six modal frequencies and modal shapes of a barrel and bracket assembly were obtained with modal analysis using ANSYS software,a modal test was designed to validate the finite element model and the modal information of the barrel and bracket assembly and was implemented.Young's modulus and the density of the barrel and bracket assembly were updated utilizing SVM-RSM model updating method.MAC model validation and the dynamic model application showed that the precision of the updated finite element model is raised so much that the structural character of the barrel assembly can be reflected more truely and the more accurate model is provided for firing accuracy analysis.
