Comparative analysis of series and shunt compensation schemes for AC transmission systems

Series and shunt compensation schemes for medium and long distance AC transmission lines are compared from the points of view of the compensation effectiveness (improvement of system stability), the total compensation MVAR requirement, the profile of line voltage and the efficiency of power transmission. The results reported in the paper enable the choice of optimized compensation schemes, from the above indicated aspects.
