EMBARRASSINGLY BAD TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES -- WE CAN DO BETTER

This paper is a summary of the major points of a presentation that features almost 100 photographs (slides) of traffic control devices (TCDs) all around the U.S. that, unfortunately, scream out the message: "You can do it better if you try!" The focus is on newly-installed TCDs because (in contrast to maintenanace issues) there are usually adequate resources to do the job right when new TCDs are installed. As such, it should be embarrassing to professionals that, too often, they are installing some awfully poor products out on the street.
