Retracted: Web services for telegeriatric and independent living of the elderly in their homes

There is an increasing interest in the development of intelligent assistive technology for seniors in recent years. Maintaining independent living for seniors has been a high priority in recent years. In the present paper we present the design and performance evaluation of a configurable ICT platform for telegeriatric and independent living of the elderly in their homes. The proposed platform integrates a large number of assistive devices and products for independent living, in conjunction to various “smart sensors” under different service models. The platform design follows a patient centric philosophy along with the concept of smart home.  Its customization options provide adaptation capabilities to meet different needs. The system has been validated in a controlled pilot study involving 30 users and their carers. The results of the pilot validation were very promising and demonstrated high accessibility, usability and user satisfaction results. Future plans involve further development and extensive system validation.
