Implementation of an active noise control system on a mining truck

This paper is concerned with the implementation of an active noise control (ANC) system for reducing the mining truck noise. Based on the spatial radiation pattern of the dominated frequency component of the truck noise at idle condition, active control experiments for reducing the dominant low frequency noise component globally in free space were carried out with two sets of 3-input 3-output ANC systems respectively. For each set of ANC system, more than 20 dB sound pressure level reduction was achieved at the error microphones, and the corresponding global sound power reduction evaluated at 13 evaluated points 10 m away was more than 1.0 dB. The performance of ANC systems over different distances (10 m, 20 m and 30 m) was also measured in front of the mining truck, and the noise level attenuated at 10 m is about 6 dB more than that at 30 m. This research explored the feasibility of controlling tonal noise from a mining truck in the far-field.
