A nonlinear voltage controller using T-S fuzzy model for power system

Major objectives in power system control design are to prevent a losing synchronism after a large sudden fault and to achieve good pre-fault regulation of the generator terminal voltage. Conventional linear controllers for a power system were designed by using a linearization technique at the nominal point and they did not give a good stability after a large disturbance or changing operating points. To overcome this problem, a lot of researches regarding nonlinear control schemes to improve the transient stability and voltage regulation were reported. In this paper, a novel approach is proposed to design a nonlinear voltage controller for a power system. It is designed by using Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) Fuzzy model of the power system based on parallel distributed compensation (PDC) and linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).
