Research and Optimal Design of Sheds for Tension Composite Insulators

According to the requirement of IEC standards and referring to the fruits of shed researches for tension composite insulators in the world,This paper devises an optimized form of shed which is particularly applicable to the EHV/UHV tension composite insulators. This kind of shed can meet the basic requirement for creepage distance,has good contamination deposit performance and selfclear ability,increases the pollution flashover voltage and replace equivalently the porcelain or glass tension insulators with the same configuration height. The disadvantage of such shed is low CF coefficient,and it is not recommended to use in heavy pollution areas where self-clear could not be reached effectively or in the regions where higher creepage distance is required.
