Lossless and low-crosstalk characteristics in an InP-based 2*2 optical switch

A lossless and low-crosstalk optical switch is most desirable for large-scale photonic networks. To realize such a switch, a traveling-wave amplifier is integrated into the slip waveguide of a carrier-injection type optical single-slip structure (S/sup 3/) switch. We demonstrate fiber-to-fiber lossless and low-crosstalk (40 dB ON/OFF ratio) characteristics of two of four elements in a 2*2 crossbar optical switch that integrates four amplifiers and eight Y-branch optical switches.<<ETX>>
