Soft starting of electric submersible pump drives for harsh envirmont in oceans

• Modeling and soft switching control of HIPM motor is presented. • A V/F controller has been used to run the motor at different command speeds. • Modelling of Multi-stage shaft vibration by Bond graph method. • The designed V/F controller limits the starting current and compensate for the line voltage drop. • Both simulation and experimental results are presented. • Both the results exhibit good run-up and synchronization performances of a laboratory HIPM motor. • The authors acknowledge the NSERC support for this work.
