An improved hemispeherical antenna array design for breast imaging

This contribution presents a stacked-patch antenna designed for breast imaging. The design is compact (17 mm × 17 mm in cross section) and is well-matched from 4.5 GHz to nearly 9 GHz. Consideration is given to the ability of the antenna to radiate a broadband pulse into the breast, and the antenna is shown to perform well in this respect. An antenna array based around this element design is presented, along with a sample image from a phantom experiment. (5 pages)
