Aeroacoustic Measurements of a Wing/Slat Model

mM Aeroacoustic evaluations of high-lift devices have r ..... been carried out in the Quiet Flow Facility of the SADA NASA Langley Research Center. The present paper TE deals with detailed flow and acoustic measurements BL that have been made to understand, and to possibly u predict and reduce, the noise from a wing leading edge u_v slat configuration. The acoustic database is obtained by Ug a moveable Small Aperture Directional Array (SADA) up of microphones designed to electronically steer to u_ different portions of models under study. The slat is Uoo shown to be a uniform distributed noise source. The _4'ln data was processed such that spectra and directivity W were determined with respect to a one-foot span of slat. _tll I The spectra are normalized in various fashions to o_.,_ demonstrate slat noise character. In order to equate portions of the spectra to different slat noise components, trailing edge noise predictions using measured slat boundary layer parameters as inputs are compared to the measured slat noise spectra.
