Computational Investigation of the Effects of Gurney Flap on the Aerodynamic Performance of VR-12 Airfoil

Aerodynamic performance of VR-12 airfoil with and without a Gurney flap is investigated computationally using an Unsteady RANS multiblock analysis. The results are compared with experimental data and the numerical results from a second (ARC2D) flow solver. A specific Gurney flap configuration where the Gurney flap is 1.5% of the baseline airfoil chord length is considered. Results include both the steady and unsteady cases where the airfoil sinusoidally oscillates.
