A BLACK VULTURE Aegypius monachus FROM ROMAN VALKENBURG, THE NETHERLANDS

The fonner occurrence of Aegypius monachus in The Nether­ lands is attested by a bill fragment from the Roman period excavation at Val­ kenburg (South-Holland). The plausibility of the occurrence of this species in the Dutch prehistoric landscape and in the cultural context of the Roman settlement will be discussed.
