Security assessment in distribution systems

This paper describes a computer program which has been developed for the calculation of alternative supply routes, under emergency conditions, in urban radial-distribution systems. It uses a criterion of security such that, in the event of the outage of any cable section owing to a fault, the supply can be restored by at least one alternative route without loading any cables in excess of 120% of their normal rating. Each network section is numbered by a special method, to facilitate computation of the network loading using an elimination technique. The program permits a printout to be made of possible resupply routes and their maximum loading for up to two years ahead, and gives warning of any reinforcement likely to be required.
