This paper reports results of a program to develop an improved understanding of linear and nonlinear c o m b tion instability in solid propellant mke t motors. One goal of the program is to develop a systematic database of motor stability data This p~per describes the n o n l i arpects of the motor fuings and analysis. Subjects discussed include motor test parameten, methods used for acoustic pulsing of motors, and comparisons M e e n pulser test data and theory. Nonlinear motor response to pulsing, pulse amplitudes, and charactexistics of sustained longitudinal chamber pressure oscillatiins are summarized. A companion paper describes the linear aspects of the motor firings.1
