Who Says Transportation Engineers Have to be Boring

The objective of this paper is to stimulate thoughts, but more importantly actions, that will make the presentations of transportation professionals more effective. The paper reviews both myths and truths about our current communication skills, provides recommendations for self-improvement, and addresses preparation, presentation enhancements, the role of humor, and other effective presentation techniques. The paper concludes with Doc Bob’s “Three Axioms for Effective Transportation Planning” presented within the context of an effective technical presentation.
