Many of the technologies that you’ve seen in this book are driven or enhanced by Google Analytics for Firebase. This is a free solution to provide insights on how people are using and engaging with your app. There are many app events that are captured automatically for you – you don’t need to write any code – and there’s an API that allows you to define your own custom events to capture, so you can finely tune the data that your app captures, and have a set of visual tools that helps you understand how your users behave. It also gives you the ability to define user groupings, called audiences, which you can then use to define functionality for that particular group. So, for example, you define an audience of people in Japan who have made an in-app purchase, and send them a message using Firebase Cloud Messaging, or people who have experienced a crash while using your app.
