A simple fast algorithm for null steering adaptive arrays

Abstract In this paper, a simple and fast algorithm for null steering adaptive arrays is proposed and investigated. The algorithm is based on the Davies beamformer in which each null steering phase setting is updated periodically by estimating the phase of the complex cross correlation between the signals in front of the phase setting. After the algorithm is described in detail, the optimal and misadjustment performance of the adaptive beamformer are analysed. Some simulation results are then presented to verify the theoretical derivations as well as to demonstrate the speed of convergence of the algorithm. When compared with the LMS algorithm, the null steering algorithm proposed requires less computational power and yet is much faster.
