IN THE great majority of patients prostatic cancer presents few diagnostic difficulties because, unfortunately, by the time the patient consults his physician the disease has already extended beyond the borders of the gland and has metastasized to other parts of the body. On the other hand, the diagnosis of early prostatic cancer may not be so easy and many times a biopsy is necessary in order to arrive at a definite decision. It can not be stressed too emphatically that it is important to make a rectal examination at the time of a physical check-up on every male person over 50 years of age.
