IMPLEMENTATION OF PICNET+ AS THE CONTROL NETWORK OF THE DISTRIBUTED CONTROL SYSTEM FOR THE NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

In this paper, a new high-speed real-time network, PICNET(Plant Instrumentation and Control NETwork)+ is proposed. It is implemented as the control network of KNX-5, the DCS(Distributed Control System) for the nuclear power plant. Existing fieldbuses could not accommodate increasing data quantity and decreasing control period, and present broadband networks could not meet a hard real-time property. PICNET+ is developed not only to meet those requirements but also to increase the maintainability. In order to fulfill the requirements of the high-performance real-time network, Fast Ethernet protocol is used as the physical layer, and token passing mechanism is implemented as a media access control (MAC) layer to insure the real-time property. The performance of PICNET+ is shown with the analytic method to verify the reasonability of these approaches and the satisfaction of the requirements.
