Automatic Parting Surface Generation Approach in Injection Mold Design

An automatic parting surface generation approach in injection mold design was presented. Firstly, it recognizes and pretreats the shape of the parting line according to the parting direction and parting line, and results in an optimized parting line. Then, it classifies the segments of the parting line by their types, and generates a serial of face pieces based on different rules. Finally, it gets the parting surface by sewing these face pieces. The test results show that the proposed approach is effective and efficient in automatically generating the parting surface of the molded part.
