ABSTRACT In this paper, general notions on the ductility, used in seismic design, have been discussed. Thus, the procedure of evaluation of the curvature ductility factor, taking into account the specificies of the french code, have been developed. Also, the parameters considered in the curvature ductility have been reviewd. The estimated values of longitudinal tensile steel using in some design codes have been shown. The avaible curvature ductility factor of beams for these values of tensile steel has been evaluated. To obtain a ductile reinforced concrete beams during the design, we have recorded different admissible percentages ρ, for a given ductility. At the end, a new approch related to choice of ρ for the ductility condition has been proposed.
