Cellular Mechanisms Of Thermal Injury In Electrical Trauma

In this study we investigate the cellular mechanisms of thermal damage to skeletal muscle cells to quantify the role of thermal injury in electrical trauma. The effects of elevated temperature on the plasma membrane and contraction behavior of cells were investigated by microscopic methods. The results suggest that thermal injury may lead to cellular injury by excessive contraction andlor denaturation of membrane proteins at temperatures greater than 45OC.
