L‐Aspartic Acid, Production Processes

l-Aspartic acid is a four-carbon amino acid that is used not only as a stand-alone food additive, but also as a raw material for the food and pharmaceutical industries. It is conventionally produced in bioprocesses utilizing immobilized enzyme-mediated or bacterial cell-mediated bioconversion. Notably, processes that make use of Corynebacterium species under growth-arrested conditions in a membrane reactor constitute attractive options for the industrial-scale manufacture of this important amino acid. Keywords: l-aspartic acid; aspartase; fumaric acid; immobilized enzyme; Corynebacterium glutamicum
