On-ramp Fuzzy Control of Urban Expressway Based on Fuzzy Logic Methods

Traffic congestion has seriously influenced the rapid development of the society economy.In order to alleviate,or decrease traffic congestion of urban expressway in time,it is extremely urgent to strengthen traffic control and reasonably distribute the operation condition of traffic flow.In order to realize the metering for on-ramp metering rate,a fuzzy control theory was used based on such traffic information as the time occupancy upstream mainline at the on-ramp,average speed downstream mainline at the on-ramp,and on-ramp queue length at the surface street,the change rate of the queue on the surface streets was taken into account.By using MATLAB fuzzy logic toolbox,the simulation result denotes that the on-ramp fuzzy metering method proposed herein is effective and can realize the real-time control of the on-ramp metering rate.
