Comparisons of magnetic field shaping methods for ubiquitous wireless power transfer

New practical magnetic field shaping (MFS) method for ubiquitous wireless power transfer (U-WPT) systems is proposed in this paper. Comparative analyses on MFS methods for a ferromagnetic plate, a conductive plate, and LC-resonant coils, were conducted with a loop type transmitting coil. The overall superiority of a combination of the conductive plate and the LC-resonant coil for a long-distance-wide-range U-WPT over other MFS methods is confirmed by comparing not only the MFS performance but also installation issues and experimentally verified at the frequency of 230 kHz with the loop coil having a radius of 220 mm.
