Organic-Based Corrosion-Inhibiting Admixture For Reinforced Concrete

The article discusses corrosion-inhibiting admixtures for reinforcing steel, and describes a unique organic-based corrosion-inhibiting admixture (OCIA) which is a combination of amines and esters in a water medium for protecting steel reinforcement. The performance of the OCIA is discussed. Concrete treated with calcium nitrite-based corrosion-inhibiting admixture (CNA) is discussed. Chloride limits for CNA (chloride-to-nitirite ratios greater than 1.611 to 1 by weight will result in corrosion) is discussed, as well as the effect of OCIA on hardened properties, and the corrosion protection mechanism.
