A Phase-shifterless Active Phase Array Using Coupled Oscillators

A new kind of phased array using coupled oscillators is introduced which needs no phase shifters. Through slightly detuning the edge array elements a constant phase gradient can be established. The dynamic of nearest-neighbor coupled oscillators array is analyzed. A one-dimensional experimental array at S-band is designed, giving the actual measured phase progression that is continuously variable over the range -70deg< Deltaphi <62deg comparing the theoretical range -90deg < Deltaphi < + 90deg.
