Research on the architecture of telecom services platform based on IMS and SOA

Recently there has been an enormous increase in trends of telecom networks convergence and telecom capabilities open-up to achieve expeditious and flexible development of telecom services [1]. IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) provides a solution of network convergence and Parlay Group has adopted an open Application Programming Interface (API) approach to open-up telecom capabilities. Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) exhibits certain characteristics such as loose-coupling and interoperable services for exposing and redesigning telecom services. We demonstrate the architecture of telecom services platform which comprises five layers based on IMS and SOA. By adopting the framework of IMS, the bottom three layers that are device layer, transport layer and control layer screen the heterogeneity of different networks. Parlay API and Parlay X are applied in the application layer to open-up telecom capabilities and provide unified interfaces. We introduce service layer at the top which mainly comprises a service bus to achieve service convergence. The entire design of our platform is based on SOA principle.
