REPAIR TECHNIQUES FOR CONCRETE BRIDGE COMPONENTS

The objective of this manual is to document the types of repairs which are suitable for reinforced and prestressed concrete bridge components other than bridge decks. A survey of Canadian and United States agencies, consultants and suppliers was used to identify current technology and to supplement the technical literature. Environmentally-induced surface defects and deterioration are primarily dealt with, rather than structural repairs. The report discusses the following main areas of investigation: 1) common defects and deficiencies affecting concrete components, 2) methods of detecting defects and deterioration, 3) materials and methods of repair which have been used, and their effectiveness, where known, 4) documentation and administration of repair contracts, and 5) summary of related research activities and needed research.
