The impact of multi-scale representation of DEM derived from different wavelet basis

In the course of the application of Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data to analyse such as topographic features, the fine spatial patterns and macroscale characteristics are both needed. However, in most instances, this is very difficult to be achieved using single resolution files considering the large quantity of data. It is very necessary to implement multi-scale representation of DEM data effectively with high precision and main characteristics. In this paper, the two-dimension discrete wavelet transform decomposition and reconstruction algorithm are applied to transform DEM data of 25m scale. Meanwhile, the most suitable basis are achieved by the comparison of the impact of multi-scale representation of DEM data derived from different wavelet basis. Through the experiment, it could be seen that different wavelet basis influences the transform result greatly and different wavelet basis should be chosen according to the need of application.
