BIBLIOGRAPHY OF SECONDARY SOURCES ON THE HISTORY OF DERMATOLOGY

Supplements to this bibliographic record of the history of dermatology citations in English have been an ongoing project since the 1970s, appearing at 5-year intervals. The number of papers relating to historical aspects of the skin continues to be substantial. The question may arise as to the necessity of such supplements, when access to the literature is readily available through PubMed and the search engines of several medical publishers. Although the vast majority of papers can be located with ease by these methods, not all biographical papers are indexed. In addition, some keywords are more peculiar to dermatology than to general medicine, which can result in omission of a citation. Lastly, several dermatology journals and newsletters are not indexed in Index Medicus. Beginning with this installment, references are recorded in the Vancouver style, as modified for Clinics in Dermatology.
