Evaluation of a cone press for forage fractionation

A cone or 'Vee' press was evaluated for juice expression from macerated alfalfa. Parameters evaluated were throughput, final moisture content, juice solids content, pressure exerted, and energy required. Independent varibles were rotational speed, compression ratio, packer frequency and force, and initial moisture. Average energy required was 0.95 kWh/t. 9 refs.
