Influence of Wind-Energy-Converter Control Methods on the Output Frequency Components

This paper analyzes the influence of different wind-energy-converter control methods on the connected electrical grid. As the wind energy propagates through the converter to the mains, their frequency components are influenced by the conversion processes. The plant control strategies have a major influence on these components. In particular, frequencies between 2 and 8 Hz can cause undesired flicker effects in the connected grid. For the grid stability, it is beneficial to dampen these frequency components in the power output. The influences of the control methods on these frequency components are analyzed in this paper.
