Study on transient hydrodynamic performance of Mixed-Flow-Pump during starting period

In order to investigate the transient hydrodynamic performance of Mixed-Flow-Pump and determine the appropriate prediction method, some experimentations and numerical simulations were carried out. Comparison of the transient results with the quasi-steady assumption results showed that pump performance had substantial transient effects during the starting period; that the flow-rate and pump head increased as rotational speed increased; and that they finally approached the steady-state values. The non-dimension head coefficient tended to become larger than the quasi-steady value at the very beginning of the start. The analysis model of the pump starting was set up on basis of the internal characteristics of pump and the one-dimensional unsteady motion equations of pipeline. The results of numerical analysis were almost the same as those obtained from the experiments, and indicated the numerical model is fit for transient performance prediction of Mixed-Flow-Pump.
