In thepresent work,ananalysis concerning thetorque performance ofa two-phase induction motoriscarried out.The analysis isbased onthefirst-harmonic approximation ofdistorted by triac voltage waveforms andconcerns thecasewherethemotoris driven bytwoquadrature voltages oneofwhichiscontrolled bya triac. Asanextention totheaboveanalysis, theunusual caseinwhich themotorisdriven bytwoin-phase voltages withthetriac acting on one-phase winding, isalsoconsidered. Forthiscaseofmotor driving, itispointed outthatatorque isdeveloped inmotordueto voltage phaseshifting caused bytriac nonlinear action. Thiscould be perhaps ofvalue forspecially designed motorswhichwouldprovide theability ofusing triacs instead ofcapacitors forquadrature voltage production andtorque generation. Themotortorque characteristics derived givegeneral information whichcanbeusedforaparticular motorwithgiven parameters. Also anoutline procedure oftaking thetorque datafromthegeneral torque charts isgiven.
