Metropolitan edge estates

Abstract The planning and development of residential estates on the edge of metropolitan areas is a topic that generates much debate and discussion. This paper‐provides, from the perspective of a town planner and development manager, an overview of the pianning and development of master planned city‐edge residential estates, with a focus on South East Queensland. It is necessarily broad and will examine some of the key drivers of edge development as well as issues and planning responses that are being or could be delivered. The contextual framework is ecological sustainability, as defined in the Queensland Integrated Planning Act 1997(IPA).
